For those of you who know me well, you know I am a huge admirer and collector of Lundberg glass. If you are not yet knowledgeable about these magnificent works of art, allow me to give you a brief history. Back in the 1970's, the two Lundberg brothers started a glass making factory in Davenport, California. Their unique method of creating glass products helped make some of the most beautiful vases, paperweights and other glass objects the USA has ever created. In fact, Lundberg glass has been displayed in the Smithsonian Institute, the White House, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago among other institutions.
According to one worker I spoke to at the Lundberg Studios during a visit, decades ago, glass remnants of each day's production was dumped into the stream that ran past the studio which, in turn, made its way into the Pacific Ocean. It is called end-of-day glass - same way end-of-day glass was created in Northern England. Decades later, it is the source of the magnificent sea glass washing up on one particular beach in Santa Cruz, California.
Now, I do not collect my own Santa Cruz sea glass. It is not for the faint of heart. The waves are known to be fierce. It does not wash ashore often. Mostly, to find it, you need to stand in the surf and dig for it. I have heard of a collector breaking a leg doing so. I have a chronic ankle issue. As much as I am aching to get in those waters myself, I know I cannot :( So, I purchase pieces from a well-known Santa Cruz sea glass hunter in my circle of colleagues. This lovely piece is one of many that I will be creating and listing in the coming months.
This piece is stunning!! It is frosted clear with a bold streaks of shades of pink. This gorgeous and extremely rare Lundberg sea glass gem is wire-wrapped with Sterling Silver and hung from a freshwater pearl. It measures 5/8 inch wide by 1 1/2 " in length including the bail.
A 20" .925 Sterling Silver chain comes with the pendant. If you prefer 18", just convo me. It also comes beautifully-boxed with pretty ribbon.
***This is a unique piece and I have only one. Please order in the length chain you choose and add only one to the cart. After your purchase, it will be permanently out-of-stock :)
